Traditionally cello scrolls have been carved out of various fruit woods. Since I couldn't find some pear wood, this new scroll is made of apple. It's a bit hard and knotty, but I think the final product will be great! It certainly doesn't smell like apples; it smells like stinky shoes.
I'm using a new (new to me, at least) style of form for this new instrument: A skeleton mold. Inspired by Andrew Carruthers. It is wonderfully light! Makes for more of a freeform style of creating the rib outline.
